Poetry: The Clusterers

Standard

Born into a distant world where concepts

Of shared reality had been rendered

Impossible, where the technology

Had been designed to provide an escape

From the march of history, they cluster,

Inexplicably together, alone,

In coffeehouses, sharing a table

While each connect wirelessly to depths

Of sub-reality displayed on screen,

Transmitted through earphones, sharing their thoughts,

Not through telepathy but through clicks, signs,

Symbols. Peripheral vision transmits

A smile, a shrug, a sneer—verifications

Of containment within the feedback loop.
